Male Factor
Male infertility affects at least two out of three patients attending an assisted reproduction centre
At CREA we are experts in male factor, a concept that we informally refer to as male infertility. However, male factor is not only referring to the presence of alterations in the semen analysis (low sperm count, low motility or altered sperm morphology). Indeed it’s also referring to any pathology that might affect the sperm reproductive capacity, as its inability to reach the oocyte, to fertilize it or to generate embryos with a normal development.
In the vast majority of assisted reproduction centres all over the world, the study of the male factor is limited to a semen analysis (spermiogram). Depending on its result, treatment to be carried out is chosen, without performing more thoroughly analyses on the male, no matter if there were alterations in his sperm or not. Undoubtedly, the semen analysis is a fundamental test but it doesn’t allow us to know if a patient is fertile and to diagnose the cause of his possible infertility. Therefore, if we don’t know the cause and we don’t carry out a good diagnosis, how could we apply the best treatment?
At CREA we know that our patient is the male and not his sperm. Thus, the analyses are patient oriented and not only focused on his sperm. Therefore, given the high number of male infertility cases and their important repercussion in the treatment’s outcome, after many years of experience in this field, we have developed a Male Factor Risk Management Protocol. Thanks to it we evaluate quickly, effectively (higher chances of success carrying out the simplest treatment) and safely (lower risk for the male health and his descendants) the origin of the male infertility as to offer to our patients the adequate assisted reproduction treatment for each concrete case.
We want all our patients to feel supported, comfortable and in good hands
Our patients come first, they are our number one concern. That's why we have a dedicated team of personnel made up of totally committed professionals, whose main tasks are outstanding work ethics and performance. We offer the best care quality.
We have a tailor-made international department set up specially to take care of our visitors from overseas. Their mission is to forge a direct link between the patient's medical team in their home country, and the one in CREA. This allows for a smooth flow of information, and lets the team deal with any unforeseen issues in good time.
